On Sunday 4th May the Bar sailed against Seaview Yacht Club in the Mermaids. For the first time ever, this match was also umpired although it is fair to say that their experience was less extensive than our umpires from the previous day.
The weather was a complete contrast to the day before: gone was the sun, the warmth and the light winds, replaced by a fresh and bitterly cold north-easterly. The sea was lumpy and, as we have learned, momentum is key in the Mermaids: catch a bad wave and you can lose several boat lengths.
SVYC fielded a particularly strong team and we lost 8-4. Albeit there was a degree of controversy about one particular incident on the water, the overall result would not have been altered.
The Topley Spoons were retained by SVYC yet again.
